Netflix’s newest show Ginny & Georgia is a dramatic comedy with a thriller twist that is sure to catch your fancy, and if it doesn't, what else do you have to watch?

The series begins with the title characters, Ginny & Georgia in crisis. After a series of unfortunate events kept the family on the move for over a decade, Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey)–a cunning 30-year-old single mother–resolves to settle down in New England with her alienated 15-year-old daughter Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and nine-year-old son Austin (Diesel La Torraca).

The 10 episode season explores the cracks in Ginny’s relationship with her ever-secretive mother, together with her first forays into friendships and romance, all the while tackling issues of race, class, and identity.

Georgia, on the other hand, drowns in her financial troubles while attempting to maintain her facade of charm and proper southern upbringing.

Episode 1: Georgia arrives at Wellsbury, Mass. with her teenage daughter Virginia "Ginny" and 9-year-old son Austin after her husband dies from a heart attack.

On Ginny's first day at her new school, Ginny faces off with her English teacher and is befriended by Maxine, through whom she meets Maxine's bad-boy twin brother Marcus and another guy, Hunter.

Aftwards, Georgia meets cafe' owner Joe; Wellsbury's mayor, Paul; and her next-door neighbor Ellen, the mother of Marcus and Maxine.

Ginny while on her first date ever, with Hunter, she smokes marijuana; when Ginny gets home from the date she has sex with Marcus, losing her virginity.

Georgia attends a board meeting held by the Mayor and blackmails Joe to give organic food to the school at a low price; this gets her a job at the mayor's office.

Flashbacks throughout the episode reveal more about Georgia's past... She was abused as a teenager, became pregnant at 15 with Ginny, and that her husband's crash was no accident.

Jack Quaid Talks Scream 5 on Stir Crazy [Video]

scream 5 interview jack quaid

The Boys star Jack Quaid sat down with Josh Horowitz for a new episode of Stir Crazy and talked about the upcoming Scream 5.

In Scream 5 Jack Quaid will appear alongside franchise favorites Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox. Quaid was recently interviewed about his encounter with Ghostface, and was careful to keep its secrets under wraps.

Not much is known about Jack Quaid's role in the film, but he did confirm that he had to work on his 'scream', pun intended, for the role.

The new Scream film will be the horror franchise's first entry to hit theaters since 2011. It also has the distinction of being the first installment since Wes Craven's death.

Ready or Not filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are behind the camera this time. They are massive fans of Wes Craven's work, particularly on the original Scream movie. Their reverence for the horror legend is what ultimately convinced Neve Campbell to return to her role as Sidney Prescott.

Scream 5 is currently set to arrive in theaters on January 14th, 2022.

The Unseen: A Better Invisible Man Movie [Review]

unseen

A sawmill worker with a mysterious condition that slowly turns him invisible must risk everything to find his missing daughter.

I'm sure after reading that sentence you are asking yourself "how is that better than the Invisible Man of 2020?" Well, first we all need to be on the same page and that page is that Leigh Whannell's film may have been an okay watch, it was  by no means an Invisible Man movie. It was a movie about a man with a suit that made him appear invisible, this fact is a huge distinction that needs to be made.

For a movie to even be considered an Invisible Man story the main character must be biologically invisible, meaning his skin, and all internals, are unable to be seen by the naked eye and are not aided by mechanical means or tech. The Unseen doesn't just use this rule as a foundation, but expands on the premise in more detail than any that has come before it.

The story follows Bob Langmore (Aden Young), who eight years earlier, abruptly left his wife Darlene (Camille Sullivan) and their daughter Eva (Julia Sarah Stone) behind, only to isolate himself in a small northern Canadian town where he works in a sawmill. Prior to this Bob was playing in the NHL and is know throughout the country because he delivered a brutal beating to an opponent in his final game.  Bob tanked his career and left his family because of his rare condition: he is becoming invisible in an irregular, random way that presents him in a ghoulish fashion. When his ex-wife Darlene reaches out to him, he returns to the city for one last chance to reconnect with his daughter, but when she goes missing, he will risk everything to find her, including exposing the secret that he is becoming invisible.

The film is written and directed by Geoff Redknap who has done special fx on everything since 1996 (Deadpool, FD5, Watchmen, Cabin In The Woods). This is Redknap's first feature film and he nails it to perfection. The dialogue, character development and overall plot are so smooth that you feel like your watching a master of horror at work; akin to Wes Craven.

On screen Aden Young does most of the heavy lifting and gives an unmatched performance, think Claude Rains in the original Invisible Man; yes, it is that good.

If you want to watch a true Invisible Man film and not a story about an obsessive weirdo running around in a golf ball dimpled suit then this film is the perfect match for you.

Freaky: A Bright Spot In A Dark Year [Review]

freaky movie review

2020 was most likely to go down as one of the blandest years in film history simply due to the lack of theatrical releases. But in an unlikely turn of events, Blumhouse and Vince Vaughn have swooped in and rescued the genre with the best release of the year; Freaky.

Seventeen-year-old Millie Kessler spends her days trying to survive high school and the cruel actions of the popular crowd. But when she becomes the latest target of the Butcher, the town's infamous serial killer, her senior year becomes the least of her worries. When the Butcher's mystical dagger causes him and Millie to magically switch bodies, the frightened teen learns she has just 24 hours to get her identity back before she looks like a middle-aged maniac forever.

first, and foremost, Christopher Landon deserves a huge round of applause. This mans has been on a roll for nearly fourteen years, knocking out hit after hit. His last two films, Happy Death Day/2U, were really good but left me wanting to see him lean into a hard R instead of PG-13. Well, Freaky shows that when he has free range, it is even better than you could imagine. From the dialogue and character development to the beautifully executed kills, Landon brought it in spades.

But great writing and directing can only take you so far. Enter: Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton.

The entire cast here is good, but, make no mistake, Vaughn and Newton steal the show.

Vaughn and Newton deliver like Cage and Travolta delivered in Face/Off. These two are able to jump in and out of their respective roles seamlessly and so well that you'd believe they really swapped bodies. Vaughn knows how to get laughs and adding on the layer of him playing a seventeen year old high school girl is just icing on the cake. Newton is able to lean into her years of playing on Supernatural and really let that killer side shine.

Everything about this film is enjoyable and down-right fun. It has been a tough year to find a good horror movie but Freaky just hit a grand-slam in the bottom of the ninth to save the genre for one more year.

Rabbit In Red: Sid Haig 'Captain Spaulding' [Interview]

Captain Spaulding

Sid Haig has never been one to give-up on anything but after nearly 40 years of carrying a gun (except for the occasional Jack Hill or Roger Corman film), his dreams of being recognized as a more than competent actor were fading. Then in 1992, Sid, fed up with being typecast, retired from acting and quoted, "I'll never play another stupid heavy again, and I don't care if that means that I never work, ever." This just proves that if you take a stand people will listen, for in 1997 Quentin Tarantino wrote the part of the judge in Jackie Brown (1997) for Sid.

Then things got better, much better. Not necessarily more work, just better work.

During the mid and late 1990s, Sid ran a community theater company, as well as dabbled occasionally in theater in Los Angeles. Then in 2000, Sid came out of his self-imposed retirement at the request of Rob Zombie for a part in Zombie's debut film House of 1000 Corpses (2003). He starred as the fun-loving, but murderous, Captain Spaulding. This role breathed new life into Sid's acting career and earned him an award for Best Supporting Actor in the 13th Annual Fangoria Chainsaw Awards, as well as an induction into the Horror Hall of Fame.

Sid's character of Captain Spaulding has since become the icon for the new horror genre. Sid has recently enjoyed success as Captain Spaulding once again in Rob Zombie's follow-up to House of 1000 Corpses (2003), entitled, The Devil's Rejects (2005). For this film, Sid received the award for best Actor in the 15th Annual Fangoria Chainsaw Awards, as well as sharing the award for "Most Vile Villain" at the First Annual Spike TV Scream Awards with Leslie Easterbrook, Sheri Moon Zombie, and Bill Moseley as The Firefly Family.

Rabbit In Red: Elvira, Mistress of the Dark Cassandra Peterson [Interview]

Cassandra Peterson

Cassandra Peterson, best known as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, is an American actress and Horror Icon. She gained fame on the Los Angeles television station KHJ wearing a revealing black Gothic, cleavage-enhancing gown as host of Elvira's Movie Macabre, a weekly horror movie presentation.

Peterson's Elvira character rapidly gained notice with her tight-fitting, low-cut, cleavage-displaying black gown. Adopting the flippant tone of a California "Valley girl", she brought a satirical, sarcastic edge to her commentary. She reveled in dropping risqué double entendres and making frequent jokes about her cleavage.

The Elvira character soon evolved from an obscure cult figure to a lucrative brand. She was associated with many products through the 1980s and 1990s including Halloween costumes, comic books, action figures, trading cards, pinball machines, Halloween decor, model kits, calendars, perfume and dolls. She has appeared on the cover of Femme Fatales magazine five times. Her popularity hit an all-time-high with the release of the feature film Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, which was co-written by Peterson.

Netfix Pick of the Week: F Is For Family Season 4

f is for family

Set in the 1970s, this animated raunchy comedy is inspired by the life of stand-up comic Bill Burr, who is a co-creator and executive producer of the series. Burr also voices the character of Frank Murphy, a short-tempered veteran who lives in the suburbs with his wife, Sue (Laura Dern) and their three children. Frank, who works at an airport, has a penchant for shouting and profanity-filled rants. The series celebrates all things 1970s, including the lifestyle, the music, and all sorts of other nostalgic details.

Burr co-created F is for Family with Michael Price, a writer and co-executive producer on Fox’s The Simpsons and Lego Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles and Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales. Along with the creative duo, the show’s array of executive producers consists of Vince Vaughn, Peter Billingsley, Katie O’Connell, Elisa Todd Ellis, Sidonie Dumas and Christophe Riandee.

Joining Burr on the series is an impressive voice cast that consists of names like Laura Dern, Justin Long, Sam Rockwell, Debu Derryberry, Mo Collins and David Koechner.

The trailer for F is for Family Season 4 previews the arrival of Frank’s long-estranged father, Bill, voiced in a signature ominously-paternal form by Jonathan Banks.

Netflix Pick of the Week: Dead To Me Season 2

dead to me netflix

Jen's husband recently died in a hit-and-run, and the sardonic widow is determined to solve the crime. Optimistic free spirit Judy has recently suffered a tragic loss of her own. The ladies meet at a support group and, despite their polar-opposite personalities, become unlikely friends. As the women bond over bottles of wine and a shared affinity for "The Facts of Life," Judy tries to shield Jen from a shocking secret that could destroy her life as she knows it. The dark comedy -- which explores the weirdly funny sides of grief, loss and forgiveness -- features a cast that includes TV veterans Christina Applegate and Ed Asner.

Season 2 of Dead to Me picks up right where it left off, with Jen (Christina Applegate), Judy (Linda Cardellini) and a dead body in a swimming pool. Said body is Steve (James Marsden), Judy’s emotionally abusive ex, whom Jen killed in either self defense or a fit of murderous rage, depending on who you ask.

The pitch-black comedy loves to tighten the noose around Jen and Judy’s necks, as they must deal with the fallout of Steve’s murder. Detective Perez (Diana Maria Riva) is still suspicious of the duo, and things get even more complicated with the surprise arrival of Steve’s twin brother Ben (also played by Marsden).

Amazon Must Watch: Upload

amazon series upload

In the near future, people who are near death can be 'uploaded' into virtual reality environments. Cash-strapped Nora works customer service for the luxurious 'Lakeview' digital afterlife. When party-boy/coder Nathan's car crashes, his girlfriend uploads him into Nora's VR world

Series creator Greg Daniels—best known for his work on The Office, Parks and Recreation, and King of the Hill—purportedly came up with the concept many years ago while working as a staff writer on Saturday Night Live, although Amazon didn't green-light the pilot until 2017, ordering a full ten-episode series the following year.

Robbie Amell (Code 8) plays Nathan, who is on the verge of closing a huge business deal with his friend and business partner, Jamie (Jordan Johnson-Hinds, Blindspot). But then his self-driving car malfunctions and crashes, landing Nathan on a hospital gurney, in critical condition. His wealthy girlfriend Ingrid (Allegra Edwards, Briarpatch) urges him to take the "upload" option over surgery. "We could be together forever!" she enthuses. Nathan is less keen: "Forever is just soooo long." But he ends up taking the upload anyway and wakes up in a virtual apartment. "This is the first day of the rest of your afterlife," Nora (Andy Allo, Chicago Fire) calmly assures him.

There are myriad advantages to a digital afterlife, Nathan discovers, like being able to change the weather and associated landscape outside one's window just by turning a knob. He feels freer to make some daring virtual fashion choices, with Ingrid's input. He even manages to make a couple of unlikely friends: Dylan (Rhys Slack, Legends of Tomorrow), who died when he was on the verge of puberty and whose family refuses to upgrade his avatar to an adult body; and Luke (Kevin Bigley, Sirens), a veteran who is having some trouble adjusting to his digital afterlife.

Netflix Pick of the Week: Happy! Season 2

happy season 2 netflix

HAPPY! is based on New York Times best-selling author Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson’s graphic novel of the same name. The series follows Nick Sax (Christopher Meloni, Law & Order: SVU) – an intoxicated, corrupt ex-cop turned hit man – who is adrift in a world of casual murder, soulless sex and betrayal. After a hit gone wrong, his inebriated life is forever changed by a tiny, relentlessly positive, imaginary blue winged horse named Happy (Patton Oswalt).

Season two is set during the Easter holiday (following the first season's Christmas setting).

Season one ended with Nick tracking down Very Bad Santa at his hideout to find all the children he'd kidnapped – and lobotomised – over the years. Very Bad Santa is about to do it to Nick's daughter Hailey, but she escapes while Nick chases down Very Bad Santa and kills him.
After reuniting with his daughter, Nick suffers a heart attack, leading to rumours that he is actually dead. However, he has survived and is reunited with Happy after Happy said goodbye to Hailey.

The post-credits scene also saw crime boss Mr Blue visited by his nephew Mikey who breathes into Blue's ear before dying, meaning that "Orcus" who was possessing Mikey is now possessing Blue and is "hungry".

Netflix Pick of the Week: The Platform

netflix movie platform

The Platform is the feature directorial debut for Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia working from a script penned by David Desola and Pedro Rivero. It takes place in a facility called “The Hole,” a prison of sorts but one with a stacked vertical layout and two people assigned to each floor. Some of The Hole’s occupants committed crimes but then there are others like Ivan Massagué’s Goreng who agreed to spend six months in The Hole in exchange for an accredited diploma.

Once a day, the platform is made available to each floor. The first floor is served an untouched feast. There’s the sweet, the savory, protein, greens, cakes, wine – you name it. It’s a glorious sight for the two occupants on floor 1 – and probably the folks on the next few floors as well – but the thing is, the platform spread is never replenished. You’ve got a set amount of time to eat your fill and then it’s on to the next floor and the next floor and the next floor until there’s no more food left. And even then, there are still dozens of floors to go.
