Rabbit In Red: Clint Howard and Ashley Bell Sparks [Interview]

Rabbit In Red Radio interviews Clint Howard and Ashley Bell about their roles in the film SPARKS.

Ian Sparks (Chase Williamson) discovers the dark side of heroism, while going after the nation's most notorious super criminal he manages to leave his life and reputation in ruins along the way. The tragic loss of his parents as a young boy leaves him scarred in unimaginable ways, but it helps shape his desire to become a "super". He manages to team up with fellow “super” Lady Heavenly (Ashley Bell), but the arrival of a vicious serial killer, Matanza (William Katt), who unleashes a bloody rampage on the city, destroys Sparks and Heavenly’s partnership and relationship.

Racked with guilt, Sparks hits rock bottom, only to be saved by a guardian angel Archer (Clancy Brown), a cop whose own tragedy was linked to the fate of Sparks’ parents. Archer and Sparks discover their common enemy, which brings together a partnership of other “gifted” individuals whose intentions are not as honorable as Sparks. Hitting rock bottom, Sparks looks to make an easy buck, but finds danger along the way. In order to right the wrong done to his life and to his friends, he must face his past and fight for his future. Now all Ian Sparks can do is regain his dignity, seek redemption, and clear his name.

Rabbit In Red: Sid Haig 'Captain Spaulding' [Interview]

Sid Haig has never been one to give-up on anything but after nearly 40 years of carrying a gun (except for the occasional Jack Hill or Roger Corman film), his dreams of being recognized as a more than competent actor were fading. Then in 1992, Sid, fed up with being typecast, retired from acting and quoted, "I'll never play another stupid heavy again, and I don't care if that means that I never work, ever." This just proves that if you take a stand people will listen, for in 1997 Quentin Tarantino wrote the part of the judge in Jackie Brown (1997) for Sid.

 Then things got better, much better. Not necessarily more work, just better work. 

During the mid and late 1990s, Sid ran a community theater company, as well as dabbled occasionally in theater in Los Angeles. Then in 2000, Sid came out of his self-imposed retirement at the request of Rob Zombie for a part in Zombie's debut film House of 1000 Corpses (2003). He starred as the fun-loving, but murderous, Captain Spaulding. This role breathed new life into Sid's acting career and earned him an award for Best Supporting Actor in the 13th Annual Fangoria Chainsaw Awards, as well as an induction into the Horror Hall of Fame. 

Sid's character of Captain Spaulding has since become the icon for the new horror genre. Sid has recently enjoyed success as Captain Spaulding once again in Rob Zombie's follow-up to House of 1000 Corpses (2003), entitled, The Devil's Rejects (2005). For this film, Sid received the award for best Actor in the 15th Annual Fangoria Chainsaw Awards, as well as sharing the award for "Most Vile Villain" at the First Annual Spike TV Scream Awards with Leslie Easterbrook, Sheri Moon Zombie, and Bill Moseley as The Firefly Family.

Rabbit In Red: Elvira, Mistress of the Dark Cassandra Peterson [Interview]

Cassandra Peterson, best known as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, is an American actress and Horror Icon. She gained fame on the Los Angeles television station KHJ wearing a revealing black Gothic, cleavage-enhancing gown as host of Elvira's Movie Macabre, a weekly horror movie presentation.

Peterson's Elvira character rapidly gained notice with her tight-fitting, low-cut, cleavage-displaying black gown. Adopting the flippant tone of a California "Valley girl", she brought a satirical, sarcastic edge to her commentary. She reveled in dropping risqué double entendres and making frequent jokes about her cleavage.

The Elvira character soon evolved from an obscure cult figure to a lucrative brand. She was associated with many products through the 1980s and 1990s including Halloween costumes, comic books, action figures, trading cards, pinball machines, Halloween decor, model kits, calendars, perfume and dolls. She has appeared on the cover of Femme Fatales magazine five times. Her popularity hit an all-time-high with the release of the feature film Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, which was co-written by Peterson.

Rabbit In Red: Gene Jones 'The Sacrament' [Interview]

There are plenty of fantastical villains on film, but in terms of horribly believable evil, it will be hard to top the performance of actor Gene Jones as “Father” in director Ti West’s thriller The Sacrament.

The film was inspired by 1978’s infamous Jonestown mass suicide in which almost a thousand People’s Temple cult members died from cyanide poisoning. The film stars Jones as an avuncular-seeming church leader who reveals a far darker side when he is investigated by a pair of fictional VICE journalists (AJ Bowen and Joe Swanberg).

I had the privilege to talk with Mr. Jones about his role in The Sacrament and what steps he took to bring this character to such believable depths. We also chatted about No Country For Old Men, how he got his start acting, and what it was like to work with the late Robin Williams in Merry Frickin Christmas.

In honor of the best Christmas film out there we are bringing you a Rabbit In Red Rewind with Zack Ward. Zack joins the show to talk about A Christmas Story, Uwe Boll, "what if" he had the chance to play Carnage in a Spider-Man film and his latest film Don't Blink.

Don't Blink - Ten people arrive at a secluded mountain resort to find it completely deserted. With no gas for the return trip, the visitors are forced to stay and investigate the mystery surrounding the abandoned lodge.

Rabbit In Red: My Bloody Valentine George Mihalka [Interview]

It’s the Rabbit In Red Valentine's show and Mike and John are joined by George Mihalka, the man behind the 1981 slasher classic MY BLOODY VALENTINE. He has a lot of anecdotes from the set and really dives into what it was like making the movie.

My Blood Valentine (1981) Valentine's Day is coming around and the young people of the small mining town of Valentine's BLuffs are organising a party. A few decades earlier an explosion at the mine trapped six miners underground. One, Harry Warden, survived, though in a deranged state. Warden is sent to a mental hospital but escapes and murders those he deems responsible for the mine accident. Now people are being brutally murdered again, and the townsfolk suspect that it is the work of Harry Warden.

Rabbit In Red: Fangoria's Tony Timpone [Interview]

Tony Timpone began working with Fangoria magazine in 1985 and continued there until February 2010, when he was succeeded by Chris Alexander, a Toronto-based former writer for Rue Morgue.

In the early 1990s, Timpone helped guide the first three Fangoria movies for Columbia TriStar Home Video: Mindwarp, Children of the Night, and Severed Ties. In the early to mid-2000s, he served as an acquisitions chief for Fangoria’s various video labels. In addition, he was a producer/interviewer for Fangoria TV’s Screamography, a consulting producer/recurring guest on the now-defunct Fangoria Radio show with Dee Snider and Debbie Rochon, and the co-producer and long-time Master of Ceremonies of Fangoria's popular Weekend of Horrors conventions.

In 1996, Timpone authored the book Men, Makeup, and Monsters: Hollywood's Masters of Illusion and FX.

Rabbit In Red: A New Beginning [Wolfie's Just Fine]

With the release of Jon Lajoie's song A New Beginning John and I head back to the Friday the 13th franchise to talk about A New Beginning. I like it, John doesn't and it makes for a half hour of nonstop arguing.

Friday the 13th V: A New Beginning - Five years after killing the goalie hockey-masked killer Jason Voorhees, Tommy Jarvis has grown up in various mental hospitals unable to get over the nightmares about Jason's return. When Tommy is sent to a rural halfway house in New Jersey for mentally disturbed teenagers, a series of grisly murders begin anew as another hockey-masked killer begins killing off all people at and around the residence. The Nice Guys: Holland March (Ryan Gosling) is a down-on-his-luck private eye in 1977 Los Angeles. Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe) is a hired enforcer who hurts people for a living. Fate turns them into unlikely partners after a young woman named Amelia (Margaret Qualley) mysteriously disappears. Healy and March soon learn the hard way that some dangerous people are also looking for Amelia. Their investigation takes them to dark places as anyone else who gets involved in the case seems to wind up dead.

The Conjuring 2: In 1977, paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren come out of a self-imposed sabbatical to travel to Enfield, a borough in north London. There, they meet Peggy Hodgson, an overwhelmed single mother of four who tells the couple that something evil is in her home. Ed and Lorraine believe her story when the youngest daughter starts to show signs of demonic possession. As the Warrens try to help the besieged girl, they become the next targets of the malicious spirit.

The Shallows: Still reeling from the loss of her mother, medical student Nancy Adams (Blake Lively) travels to a secluded beach for some much-needed solace. Despite the danger of surfing alone, Nancy decides to soak up the sun and hit the waves. Suddenly, a great white shark attacks, forcing her to swim to a giant rock for safety. Left injured and stranded 200 yards from shore, the frightened young woman must fight for her life as the deadly predator circles her in its feeding ground.

Daredevil (2003) : Attorney Matt Murdock (Ben Affleck) is blind, but his other four senses function with superhuman sharpness. By day, Murdock represents the downtrodden. At night, he is Daredevil, a masked vigilante, a relentless avenger of justice. When Wilson Fisk (Michael Clarke Duncan) hires Bullseye (Colin Farrell) to kill Daredevil, Murdock must rely on his own senses and search out the conspirators against justice -- which may include his own girlfriend, Elektra (Jennifer Garner).

Elektra (2005) : Assassin-for-hire Elektra (Jennifer Garner) works for a mysterious international organization known as the Hand, for which she kills her targets without question, and in a conspicuous red bustier, no less. When the Hand asks her to kill Mark Miller (Goran Visnjic) and his daughter, Abby (Kirsten Prout), while they're on holiday, Elektra's conscience kicks in and she decides to protect her targets rather than eliminate them. Of course, the Hand isn't so willing to let them off the hook.

Punisher: War Zone (2008) : Frank Castle, aka The Punisher (Ray Stevenson), turns the streets of New York City red as he wages a one man war against the crime syndicate responsible for the death of his wife and two kids. Aided by his trusted sidekick, Microchip (Wayne Knight), he almost kills Billy Russoti (Dominic West) and leaves him horribly disfigured. Billy renames himself Jigsaw and with the help of his crazed brother Loony Bin Jim, recruits criminals from every corner of the city to do battle with Frank.

Rabbit In Red: Batman V Superman Breakdown and Review

Convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, Batman embarks on a personal vendetta to end his reign on Earth, while the conniving Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) launches his own crusade against the Man of Steel.

Rabbit In Red: Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Jesse Eisenberg [Panel Interview]

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters in a little less than a day, but the cast sat down to field questions about the movie after the premiere.

You'll hear Ben Affleck talk about Frank Miller's Dark Knight and how Jesse Eisenberg handled all the negativity surrounding his casting for the movie.

The Interview lasted about 40 minutes but I cut it to just the important answers and what dealt directly with Batman V Superman, which brings it in at 13 minutes.

Rabbit In Red: All Hail The Spectacular Spider-Man

On this episode of Rabbit In Red we go overboard about Spider-Man. I think the costume and the reveal is one of the best takeaways from the trailer, but John thinks the eyes moving is a bad touch?

After an hours long argument over the awesomeness that is Spider-Man we speculate on who will be most remembered as the comic book movie of 2016. Will it be Deadpool, Batman V Superman, X-Men, Suicide Squad of Captain American: Civil War?

Civil War: Political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability when the actions of the Avengers lead to collateral damage. The new status quo deeply divides members of the team. Captain America (Chris Evans) believes superheroes should remain free to defend humanity without government interference. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) sharply disagrees and supports oversight. As the debate escalates into an all-out feud, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) must pick a side.

Suicide Squad: A secret government agency run by Amanda Waller, named A.R.G.U.S creates a task force comprising super villains, the "Suicide Squad". They are assigned to execute dangerous tasks in exchange for shorter prison sentences.

Last Witch Hunter: The modern world holds many secrets, the most astounding being that witches still live among us. Centuries ago, Kaulder (Vin Diesel) managed to slay the all-powerful Witch Queen, decimating her followers in the process. Before her death, she cursed the valiant warrior with her own immortality, separating him from his beloved wife and daughter in the afterlife. Her resurrection now threatens the survival of the human race as Kaulder, the only one of his kind remaining, faces her vengeful wrath.

Batman V Superman: Following his titanic struggle against General Zod, Metropolis has been razed to the ground and Superman is the most controversial figure in the world. While for many he is still an emblem of hope, a growing number of people consider him a threat to humanity, seeking justice for the chaos he has brought to Earth. As far as Bruce Wayne is concerned, Superman is clearly a danger to society. He fears for the future of the world with such a reckless power left ungoverned, and so he dons his mask and cape to right Superman's wrongs. The rivalry between them is furious, fueled by bitterness and vengeance, and nothing can dissuade them from waging this war. However, a dark new threat arises in the form of a third man: one who has a power greater than either of them to endanger the world and cause total destruction.

Rabbit In Red: The Real Ghostbusters, Tango & Cash and Mad Max

Rabbit In Red on this episode we cover the Ghostbusters remake, will it be good or bad? We pitch a sequel to the original Ghostbusters and finish off with a review of Mad Max.

Ghostbusters -  Three odd-ball scientists get kicked out of their cushy positions at a university in New York City where they studied the occult. They decide to set up shop in an old firehouse and become Ghostbusters, trapping pesky ghosts, spirits, haunts, and poltergeists for money. They wise-crack their way through the city, and stumble upon a gateway to another dimension, one which will release untold evil upon the city. The Ghostbusters are called on to save the Big Apple.

Ghostbusters II - Five years after the events of the first film, the Ghostbusters have been plagued by lawsuits and court orders, and their once-lucrative business is bankrupt. However, when Dana begins to have ghost problems again, the boys come out of retirement only to be promptly arrested. The Ghostbusters discover that New York is once again headed for supernatural doom, with a river of ectoplasmic slime bubbling beneath the city and an ancient sorcerer attempting to possess Dana's baby and be born anew. Can the Ghostbusters quell the negative emotions feeding the otherworldly threat and stop the world from being slimed?

Tango and Cash - Police officers Ray Tango (Sylvester Stallone) and Gabe Cash (Kurt Russell) are narcotics experts working to bring down drug lord Yves Perret (Jack Palance). In an attempt to stymie their efforts, Perret sets up Tango and Cash, making it look as if they've killed an FBI agent. Arrested and put in prison, the two cops formulate an escape plan and, once out, team up with Tango's exotic dancer sister, Katherine (Teri Hatcher), in order to clear their records and take down Perret once and for all.

Mad Max: Fury Road - Years after the collapse of civilization, the tyrannical Immortan Joe enslaves apocalypse survivors inside the desert fortress the Citadel. When the warrior Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) leads the despot's five wives in a daring escape, she forges an alliance with Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy), a loner and former captive. Fortified in the massive, armored truck the War Rig, they try to outrun the ruthless warlord and his henchmen in a deadly high-speed chase through the Wasteland.

Rabbit In Red: Deadpool, Old Man Logan, R-Ratings and The Witch

We are back with another episode of Rabbit In Red and we course correct after last week's snafu. John and I explain what you missed because of my human error and then when dig deep into the world of comic book movies.

To start off we talk Deadpool, Batman v Superman, X-Men and Wolverine and why Hollywood (studios) will be rushing to use the R-rating as a marketing gimmick. After that we talk about what films warrant a R-rating and which ones don't.

On the B side we cover The Witch, Turbo Kid and what how to fix the Green Lantern and Ghostrider franchise.

Deadpool - This is the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

The Witch - In 1630 New England, panic and despair envelops a farmer (Ralph Ineson), his wife (Kate Dickie) and four of their children when youngest son Samuel suddenly vanishes. The family blames Thomasin (Anya Taylor-Joy), the oldest daughter who was watching the boy at the time of his disappearance. With suspicion and paranoia mounting, twin siblings Mercy (Ellie Grainger) and Jonas (Lucas Dawson) suspect Thomasin of witchcraft, testing the clan's faith, loyalty and love to one another.

Turbo Kid - In a post-apocalyptic wasteland, an orphaned teen (Munro Chambers) must battle a ruthless warlord (Michael Ironside) to save the girl (Laurence Leboeuf) of his dreams.

Wolverine: Old Man Logan - An eight-issue storyline from the Wolverine ongoing series by writer Mark Millar and artist Steve McNiven. Set over fifty years in the future, it uses a similar premise to another Millar book, Wanted, in which the world's supervillains band together to finally destroy all superheroes. The hardcover collected edition was published January 1, 2010.
