Boxing fans know all about Vinny Pazienza but for those of you who don't you soon will with the release of Bleed for This.
Pazienza, Paz, was a two-time world champion and challenged for several other world titles. Pazienza shared the ring with high-level pugilists like Roger Mayweather, Hector Camacho and Herol Graham. But Pazienza is probably best known for his blood-soaked battle with the great Roy Jones Jr. The grit and guts that the Rhode Island fighter showed inside the squared circle is what also helped him recover from a car wreck in 1991 where he suffered a broken neck after he captured the WBA super welterweight title. Told he may never walk again, Pazienza battled back and not only walked again but fought too.
That is where Bleed for This picks up. Starring Miles Teller as Pazienza in one of sport’s greatest comeback stories: the true-life tale of how the Rhode Island brawler tragically lost almost everything just as he reached the pinnacle of his profession and how he defied medical science and common sense to return to the ring and win another championship belt. Aaron Eckhart costars as renowned boxing trainer Kevin Rooney and Katey Sagal and Ciaran Hinds play Paz’s parents.
Directed by Ben Younger (Boiler Room) and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, Bleed for This opens in limited release on Nov. 4th, 2016 before going wide on Nov. 23rd, 2016.
