Joe Dante Delivers Again In Burying The Ex [Review]

Burying The Ex
Joe Dante could not make a bad movie even if he tried. If you look at the man's history you'll see he has a very impressive track record.  The Howling, Gremlins, Small Soldiers,Matinee and The Hole are all unique films that deliver compelling stories and usually contain some type of underlying horror theme. Burying The Ex is no different and is another solid entry from a director who is still at the top of his directing game.

When Max (Yelchin) learns that his new live-in girlfriend, Evelyn (Greene) is controlling and manipulative, he is afraid to end the relationship. However, fate occurs and Evelyn is killed in a freak accident. A couple months have passed and Max meets his dream girl, Olivia (Daddario). The new romance gets tricky when Evelyn comes back from the grave and insists on continuing their relationship by any means necessary.

The cast here is perfect and each actor delivers in their respective roles. Greene does an amazing job as a jilted lover returned from the grave, who is just unaccepting of the fact their relationship has run its course. Daddario plays a very believable punk rock girl who runs an ice cream parlor and has a penchant for all thing horror. Yelchin is perfect as the male lead. He is one of those actors that no matter the role he stands out with his undeniable raw talent, he was born to act.

What is really cool about this movie, and most Joe Dante movies, is that the movie plays across the board. Meaning, whether you're an adult or child, the movie can be viewed by all. It's a good watch alone and with the family. If you are looking for a zombie movie to introduce your kids to the genre, this would be a good stepping stone.
